This week`s pastoral musings...

As I entered the room it was very clear that something interesting was going on. Right there in the middle of our children's "playroom" was a Little Tyke table with a blanket draped over it. On top of the table were two plastic containers which were filled with about seven dollars in loose change. Between the two containers was a candle and popsicle stick cross held together with rubber bands.

I watched as my son, Joshua, was busily adjusting the makeshift table cloth. He had a big smile on his face, but there was a seriousness about him that intrigued me.

"What are you doing, Bud?" I asked. His response was one I will never forget.

"This is my offering," he said excitedly. "I'm going to leave it here tonight when I go to sleep so that God can come and take it and give it to the poor people."

As pride welled up in my chest, I said, "Well, Bud, that looks like a lot of money."

"Ya," he responded, "That's all I got."

I knelt down beside him and grabbed him up in a big hug as I told him how pleased I was with him. I then choked back the tears of joy and began to explain to him that God has given each of us the privilege and responsibility to be His hands and feet in this world. I told Him that everything that we have is given to us by God and that we are to be good stewards of His blessings. Then, after helping him decide what portion of the money he should give, I said to him, "Josh, God knows you perfectly. He gave YOU this money and He wants YOU to be the one to decide where and how it should be used. Which "poor" people do you think God wants to have this money?"

He walked over to the world map we have hanging in the play room and pointed to Papua, New Guinea. He said, "Those poor people."

Since that day Joshua has changed his mind and now has raised even more money to join the previous offering in order to help Karen Lewand and the "poor people in Romania."

I think that God must feel the same way about Our Saviour's Baptist Church as I do about my son. You have given so sacrificially to send our Summer Venture team to Russia this summer. You have empowered them with your incredible gifts to bring, not only the Gospel to the people of Russia, but also to bring much needed financial assistance.

I am proud to be part of a fellowship that practices childlike faith. I know that God is pleased!

—Tim Vincent,
Youth Pastor
